Karakol will get snowpark for new season

What is a good ski/snowboarding resort? Well first of all it is good routes, lifts, accommodation and services. Karakol mountain resort has all this and I must say that this is the most attractive and good resort in Kyrgyzstan and maybe in CA.
But what sad about any resorts here is that there are no any sort of snow parks anywhere, no rails, pipes and even no kickers. So basically whole riding goes to some back country and fast shots of alcohol each time you go down to the lift.
This mid-season we have contacted Karakol resort managers regarding building first snow park in Kyrgyzstan. And you know what, they liked this idea a lot. And we had a decision to prepare a reasonable snow park plan and then make it live.
I’ve been collecting a lot of information about snow park building, especially jibbing lines and kickers. I thought that it would be easy enough to find all required information on google, but there are no much live examples and building parameters for snow elements, while there were a lot for skate or bmx parks.
Luckily I have found CFSA (Canadian Freestyle Ski Association) website with some pdf documents with official parameters for kickers, big airs, table top and half-pipe. But unfortunately kickers had skiers freestyle oriented parameters which make them look more like a quarter-pipe then a kicker. Anyway there were good information on inrun, transit and landing sections. What for the kickers – I have also found snowboarding kickers parameters on some other sites and adopted everything for more comfortable jumps.
I had also to watch about 30 snowboarding and new-school ski movies to collect a good set of different park elements.
Well my friends! I’m going to Karakol at the end of September to meet with the resort managers for the project review. And after a few days we will start building the snowpark elements. I think this is gonna be a damn hot season!

Nice work. Did the park get built? I am an American living in Bishkek and am heading to Karakol for the first time tomorrow. Can’t wait!

Hey Charlie. I’ve notcied your comment too late. Well we are working over the terrain park all the time, the problem there is the financial side – we can’t afford plastic sheets to cover the jib slide boxes. And there are not much snow yet, so all we do now is building some kickers all over the resort and especially out of the groomed runs.
Let me know if you are going to chill in Karakol in the nearest time, we can have some good riding together!
