Skiing and snowboarding at Kyrgyzstan, Karakol
One of the best ski resorts of Kyrgyzstan can be found while driving around Issyk-Kul lake. Karakol ski resort is the most preferable and large ski resort in the Central Asia. It’s altitude is 2300m and it is 7 km from Karakol city. The ski resort performs with a few chair lifts and runs of different levels of complexity what is good as for the professionals as for the beginners. The season starts in November and lasts until April. Those who prefer “freeride” or cross country rather than well groomed and predictable trials can range across the vast expanses of snowy slopes.
Karakol resort also performs with a terrain park (specially for those ones who are fond of freestyle) build in 2009/2010 season. The terrain park will be upgraded and a bit changed for the jib lines for the upcoming 2010/2011 season.
Some resort numbers and facts (due to date):
- Lifts: 4 char lifts
- Summit: 3040m
- Routes: beginner, intermediate, advanced, extreme
- Vertical drop: 792m
- Restaurant and bar: 1
- Cafe: 1
- Hotel: local resort rooms and 4 star Caprice hotel
- Terrain park with jib lines: yes
- Snowmaking: yes
- Nearest airport: Bishkek or Alma-Aty
- Backcountry and freeride capabilities: yes
- Heliski and heliboarding: possible on request (Feb-March)

и WTF? Опять, в который раз – все напрочь ЗАВАЛИЛО снегом!

Как же задолбал этот снег. Но где-то внутри еще живет желание катнуть заключительный раз в этом сезоне и отпустить зиму с миром. И это чувство решает все.. (continue reading…)
First riding day in this season
by Hullabaloo on Nov.19, 2009, under Spots
What the hell? I can see some snow in the mountains, is it much or not I should go and check it by myself. 3 days of snowing should cover all mountains with at least 30cm of powder, but unfortunately it wasn’t really much.

Some local mountains
Some disappointment fell into our hearts when we came to Kizil Beles ski base and saw that there was just about 10-15cm of snow. More of all the ground was still soft and warm and it was thawing. The ski base was not ready to take visitors and the lift was not working this day. (continue reading…)

Karakol will get snowpark for new season
by Hullabaloo on Sep.23, 2009, under Karakol snowpark, Own projects
What is a good ski/snowboarding resort? Well first of all it is good routes, lifts, accommodation and services. Karakol mountain resort has all this and I must say that this is the most attractive and good resort in Kyrgyzstan and maybe in CA.
But what sad about any resorts here is that there are no any sort of snow parks anywhere, no rails, pipes and even no kickers. So basically whole riding goes to some back country and fast shots of alcohol each time you go down to the lift.
This mid-season we have contacted Karakol resort managers regarding building first snow park in Kyrgyzstan. And you know what, they liked this idea a lot. And we had a decision to prepare a reasonable snow park plan and then make it live. (continue reading…)
